Consensus and discipline are fine virtues in vehicle-assembly plants, where almost everybody works to a preordained plan. これは、実は1993年6月23日に宮沢内閣不信任案が成立して国会が解散されたあとの記事だ。あのとき、確かにわれわれは光を見たのだが、それは幻だった。このときEconomistが日本の新政権に期待したことは、何も実現されないで16年が過ぎた。そのときの記事を彼らが再掲するのは、「16年前の宿題を今度こそ片づけろ」という意味だろうが、鳩山氏はそれを片づけられるのだろうか。
