JBpressでも紹介したが、大事な歴史的事実なのであらためて確認しておきたい。世界遺産登録をめぐって日本の佐藤ユネスコ大使は次のように発言したと報じられている。

Japan is prepared to take measures that allow an understanding that there were a large number of Koreans and others who were brought against their will and forced to work under harsh conditions in the 1940s at some of the sites.これを岸田外相や菅官房長官は「強制労働ではない」と説明しているが、普通に訳せば"brought against their will"は「意に反して連行され」、"forced to work"は「強制的に働かされた」という意味だろう。これは日本政府が「朝鮮人強制連行」を認めたと解釈されかねない表現であり、朝鮮日報など韓国紙はそう報じている。
